Record Numbers of Attendees Gather for CANP’s 41st Annual Educational Conference

Surrounded by the scenic splendor of San Diego Bay, more than 700 nurse practitioners and other health care professionals convened March 22-25 for CANP’s 41st Annual Educational Conference, supported by NSO. Attendance at the four-day event was the highest in the history of CANP’s premier annual event.

The event provided attendees the opportunity to network with peers, hear about the organization’s latest legislative advocacy priorities, and learn from some of the leading figures in the industry. The program offered nearly 70 engaging educational sessions, including 10 workshops and four symposiums, and was approved by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) for 25.5 contact hour of continuing education, including 9.24 hours of pharmacology.

Dr. Amelie Hollier, President and CEO of Advanced Practice Education Associates, and a nationally-renowned NP educator, delivered the keynote presentation. In discussing “The Road to Full Practice Authority,” Dr. Hollier focused on adapting to and facilitating changes in access to health care, both from the personal and the institutional perspective.

In keeping with conference tradition, the event also featured the announcement of the winners of the 2018 CANP Awards. Beth Haney received the Nurse Practitioner of Distinction Award, while Judy Harris was named the recipient of the Bridging Health Care Needs Award.

The exhibitor expo provided conference attendees the chance to discover the most advanced technologies and latest services available through vendors from across the nation.

And there was no shortage of just plain fun on the agenda, highlighted by the annual Friday Evening Event. This year’s gala took place aboard a Hornblower cruise ship as it embarked on a three-hour tour of the bay. Dinner, drinks and dancing kept the festivities flowing for the nearly 200 conference attendees who joined the excursion.

The conference was held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. Next year’s gathering returns to the same venue March 14-17, 2019. Make plans now to join us.
