CANP is governed by a group of volunteer leaders dedicated to promoting a strong nurse practitioners’ movement and the professional development of advanced practice nursing.
The positions of President, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, and President Elect are filled through an election by members of the House of Delegates during its biennial session. The board also includes the Immediate Past President.
Committees are created by the CANP board of directors to fulfill various governance functions. They are chaired by volunteer leaders appointed by the president based on nominating committee recommendations and subject to approval of the board.

The California Association for Nurse Practitioners (CANP) provides a forum and unifying voice for more than 30,000 nurse practitioners statewide, often joining forces with other state and national organizations, to advance the profession and bridge health care needs. As the only association solely dedicated to advocating for nurse practitioners in California, we work to protect and expand the critical roles filled by NPs. As a conduit of information, we foster the dissemination of ideas, advice and standards of practice.
