Black women are more than three times as likely to die from pregnancy-related complications as white women; in California, there are 45.8 deaths of pregnant Black women per 100,000 live births compared with 12.6 deaths of white women, according to the California Department of Public Health.

The Legislature adjourned on July 3 for a month-long recess, but CANP continues to diligently advocate in support of SB 1451 (Ashby), which contains language to address the legacy certification issue associated with implementation of AB 890.
