Featured Practice Question

I'm a Neonatal NP applying for an NP furnishing number through the BRN. It's been more than five years since I took an advanced pharmacology course (completed during my MSN program). Am I required to re-take another advanced pharmacology course in order to apply for the NP furnishing number?

No, there wasn’t a time limit. If you have the CE certificate, you can submit it to the BRN and they should provide authority.

Featured Legal Question

I am a newly licensed/board-certified FNP. I recently moved from New York to California. I am being hired by a general surgeon to practice in his clinic and also to round on his patients in the hospital. My concern is whether I can practice in an acute care setting (hospital) with an FNP license.

It depends. Are there hospitalists in the hospital that take care of the patients? If your rounds are simply to see how patients are doing with the main responsibility on the hospitalists, you should be OK. If there are no hospitalists and the physician is depending on you for treatment of the patient, that definitely poses a problem, as you should then be Acute Care certified.
