CANP's House of Delegates (HOD) meets on a biennial basis (every other year) with the next gathering taking place on Monday, May 6, 2024 at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center in Sacramento. The 2024 HOD will occur the day before CANP's Lobby Day.
The HOD is the voice of all CANP members. Composed primarily of selected representatives from each CANP chapter, it is the legislative and policy-making body of the Association. The HOD meeting is open to all members, though only seated delegates are permitted to vote on items up for consideration, including the election of officers.
The HOD has the authority to elect the CANP President, President-Elect, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, and Speaker of the House. The HOD also transacts all business of the Association not otherwise specifically provided for in the CANP bylaws. To serve as a delegate, one must be an active NP Full, First-Year Graduate, or Senior member of CANP.
Approximately 120 days prior to the next scheduled meeting of the HOD, CANP solicits a slate of delegates from each chapter, with seats apportioned based on chapter membership numbers. In preparation for the meeting, all CANP chapters are urged to submit their slate of delegates. CANP bylaws state that each chapter is allotted one delegate plus one additional delegate per 20 voting chapter members.
Resolutions are the means by which CANP members may propose changes to the Association's bylaws. The HOD takes action on resolutions that have been submitted and approved for consideration. Resolutions can be submitted by a chapter, a CANP committee, the Board of Directors, or a group of ten delegates.
