Resolutions, Board Member Elections on the Agenda for Upcoming House of Delegates
CANP volunteer leaders from throughout the state are poised to gather Monday, May 23 in Sacramento for the convening of the House of Delegates. This year’s meeting will take place at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel.
The House of Delegates (HOD) is the voice of all CANP members. Composed primarily of selected representatives from each CANP chapter, it is the legislative and policy-making body of the association.
The HOD has the authority to elect the CANP President, President Elect, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Speaker of the House. The HOD also transacts business of the association not otherwise specifically provided for in the CANP bylaws. To serve as a delegate, one must be an active NP Full, First-Year Graduate or Senior member of CANP.
Resolutions are the means by which CANP members may propose changes to the Association's bylaws. They may be proposed by the Board of Directors, by any chapter, by any committee, or by written petition of at least ten delegates. This year, three resolutions are on the agenda for the HOD’s consideration:
- A resolution to update the CANP Bylaws. Updates are to eliminate ambiguity, adhere with Corporate Code and modernize outdated provisions. These updates will be presented by the CANP Board of Directors.
- A resolution designed to enhance the communication between the CANP Vice President of Finance and chapter treasurers will be presented by a chapter.
- A resolution proposing to change the HOD meeting from an annual to a biannual (every two years) event, will be presented by a chapter.
In addition, the HOD will conduct elections for the offices of President-Elect, Vice President of Finance, and Vice President of Corporate Affairs.
The annual HOD session is open to all members, though only seated delegates are permitted to vote on items up for consideration. Once again this year, the HOD meeting is being conducted with Lobby Day, which will take place the following day, Tuesday, May 24, also at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento. Lobby Day activities will kick off the night of Monday, May 23 with a Lobby Day Reception beginning at 5:30 pm.
All delegates are encouraged to stay for Lobby Day. However, please note that participation in Lobby Day requires a separate registration.
