Featured Practice Question

In terms of AB 890's implementation - do we know yet who will be grandfathered in to not require the three years of supervised practice?

As you know, AB 890 allows NPs to work without physician supervision, removing the supervisory requirement in existing law so NPs can provide the same high-quality care they do today and care more directly for patients.  This law has many intricacies, and our policy experts will work with the BRN to determine what language needs changing/updating based on the new law.

After attending that last NP Advisory Committee, it appears the Committee is leaning towards a requirement that some Transition to Practice (TTP)  will be recommended to the BRN for NPs applying as 103 and 104 NPs.  What is less clear is whether an experienced NP, who moves into a new specialty, will have the new grad TTP requirement.  There has not been any decision about what previous work experience will count towards independent status.

You are encouraged to check back on CANP's AB 890 information page for updates.

Featured Legal Question

Can a nursing corporation have a DBA name without "nursing" or "registered nursing" as long as the name of the nursing corporation has those words?

The BRN is very strict about this.  If you are going to have a DBA, you want that it is for a professional nursing corporation.  When you form a nursing corporation, you do not have to inform the BRN.
