Featured Practice Question

What do you recommend new NPs consider before signing a contract?

Your offer letter is the first step in the process. If you agree with the terms, you must notify the organization, and a contract will be drawn up from the offer letter. If you do not agree with the offer letter, this is the opportunity to negotiate terms that are more agreeable to you. Before you enter discussions for a wage increase, you need to do some research and prepare. Some things to consider:

  • Does your organization have a merit increase program?
  • Do they offer bonuses?
  • What would you need to accomplish to qualify for it (i.e., productivity targets, quality measures, patient satisfaction scores, etc.)?
  • Look up an equivalent job on GlassDoor and see what starting wages are.
  • Don’t forget to as about benefits, things like CEU time and reimbursement, vacation, retirement contribution, etc.

Featured Legal Question

Regarding health coaching outside of my NP/RN license, what am I allowed to say or recommend? Can I recommend supplements, CBD, etc.?

You will always be held to the highest standard of your NP license. If you want to coach without using your NP or RN License you can do that. However, I would refrain from recommending supplements.
