A Look Back at #CANP39th

CANP Conference Culminates a Successful Three-Year Run on the Orange County Coast

Wrapping up a successful three-year run in Newport Beach, more than 500 nurse practitioners and other health care professionals convened March 17-20 for CANP’s 39th Annual Educational Conference, supported by NSO.

In addition to networking with peers, learning about the latest legislative advocacy efforts and the chance to soak in the surrounding splendor of one of California’s iconic coastal communities, the event provided the chance to learn from some of the most influential figures in the industry.  The program offered nearly 70 engaging educational sessions, including 10 workshops, and was approved by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) for 104.25 total contact hours and 16.41 RX hours.

Attendees certainly took advantage of the opportunity, with many sessions drawing capacity crowds, including the always-popular NSO session on malpractice case studies and a double dose of social media training sessions presented by Uptown Studios that once again proved to be among the most engaging conference offerings.

In keeping with conference tradition, the event also featured the announcement of the winners of the 2016 CANP Awards.  Karen Macauley received the Nurse Practitioners of Distinction Award, while Karen Deck was named the recipient of the Bridging Health Care Needs Award.

The exhibitor expo provided conference attendees the chance to discover the most advanced technologies and latest services available through vendors from across the nation. The expo culminated with the annual fundraising raffle that generated more than $10,000 for the Association.

And there was no shortage of just plain fun on the agenda.  Friday evening’s beach-themed dinner and social event was such a hit that it was extended an hour beyond its scheduled conclusion, and nearly 50 attendees were up before the crack of dawn the next morning to take part in the annual 5K Fun Run/Walk, sponsored by Planned Parenthood.

The event was held for the third consecutive year at the Marriott Newport Beach Hotel & Spa.  Next year the event returns to Northern California, taking place March 16-19, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency Waterfront Hotel, located in the San Francisco Bay Area city of Burlingame.  Make plans now to join us by The Bay in 2017.
