New Leaders Installed

House of Delegates Action Seats Four Board Members for Upcoming Terms

Two CANP volunteer leaders are set to assume new offices this July, and two others were ratified for new terms in their current positions following action taken by CANP’s House of Delegates (HOD) during its May 23 meeting in Sacramento.

In all, 85 delegates from CANP’s statewide network of chapters were present for the gathering of the HOD, the legislative and policy-making body of the Association.

Theresa Ullrich, a longtime leader at both the state and chapter levels, will assume the office of President this July.  Ullrich, a member of the Orange County chapter, has served in the position of President-Elect since July of 2014.  Per bylaws adopted by the HOD that year, the sitting President-Elect automatically ascends to the position of President following the completion of the previous President’s term.  Current President Donna Emanuele’s term ends June 30.

The HOD also elected Karen Bradley to the position of President-Elect. Bradley is a longtime active member of the Inland Empire chapter, and previously served on the Board of Directors as Chair of the Health Practice Committee.

In addition, two sitting members of the board ran unopposed for re-election to their current positions.  Barbara Lome, a member of CANP’s San Diego Central chapter, will return as Vice President of Finance for the 2016-18 term, while Patti Gurney of the Sacramento chapter remains as Vice President of Corporate Affairs.

Resolutions Garner HOD Approval

At the conclusion of the day-long meeting, the delegates approved each of three resolutions under consideration. The most spirited discussion came during debate of a resolution proposing that the HOD meeting would be held every two years instead of annually.  After lengthy discussion, the proposal was approved by an acknowledged majority vote.

The HOD also approved a recommendation to the Board of Directors to establish provisions for regular communications between the Vice President of Finance and CANP Chapter Treasurers for the purpose of strengthening the process of maintaining fiscal records and accountability.  A third resolution gaining approval adopts a comprehensive set of refinements to the CANP bylaws intended to produce clarity, consistency and compliance with current law.
