Featured Practice Question

Can medical assistants be supervised by a nurse, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, or physician’s assistant?

Only a "community clinic" or "free clinic" licensed under Health and Safety Code section 1204(a) permits a nurse, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, or physicians' assistant to supervise medical assistants if the physician is not on the premises.  This provision is on the priority list of issues to tackle through legislation as we move forward.

Featured Legal Question

Do California NPs earn overtime, legally?

It depends on the situation.  If the NP is salaried, there is no limit to the amount of time s/he can work without pay.  NPs can work three 12-hour shifts per week without OT being paid.  If you are not salaried and work more than 40 hours per week, you should qualify for overtime.
