Welcome to the West Los Angeles South chapter October dinner meeting!

Bill Updates:

9/19/12: "White Paper" from the American Academy of Family Physicians.  The AAFP published views on the medical home stating that NPs should not be allowed to take on the same role as physicians in the medical center home as they are less qualified individuals. The AAFP is against widening the scope of NPs practice regulations, and believe that NPs should work under the direction of a physician. Currently 22 states allow NPs to treat and diagnose diseases independently. At this time the CANP does not have a PR person to respond to this statement.  We will be asked by state to make a donation to support hiring a PR person who will respond in a sensitive and timely manner to issues that confront NPs such as the WHITE PAPER from the AAFP.

Chapter Updates:

Let us know if you’re interested in becoming a delegate! We can send 3 and the deadline is 1/1/2013:

The House of Delegates (HOD) is the voice of all CANP members, and functions as the legislative and policy-making body of the association. The House of Delegates meets annually with the board of directors for a two-day session, typically at the end of winter or beginning of spring. HOD has the authority to elect the CANP President, President Elect, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Speaker of the House. The House of Delegates also transacts all business of the association not otherwise specifically provided for in the CANP constitution and bylaws.

Lobby Day is May 6-7, 2012:

Every year CANP shows its strength at the State Capitol by bringing NPs face-to-face with legislators. Join your colleagues in Sacramento for Lobby Day to learn about the coming year’s legislative issues and meet with legislators to help advance CANP’s agenda. This annual event is always exciting and inspirational, leaving nurse practitioner participants empowered to continue the conversation at the local level.

Please think about nominations for your fellow NPs for the annual NP of Distinction and the Bridging Healthcare Needs awards given by the CANP.  Please go to https://canpweb.org/about/np-awards/ to read about these awards.  The deadline for applications is 11/15/12

We are always accepting donations at the monthly meetings for Out of the Closet, a local thrift store that benefits the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Please register for meetings through the CANP website at www.canpweb.org by clicking on events and events listing to find out the event title and information.  You will need to login in order to register and pay online.
